Mayoral elections will take place today in Bishkek. There is only one candidate to the post Albek Ibraimov, who was nominated by the faction of the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan of the City Council.
The rest of three factions and the Prime Minister of the country did not use their right to nominate candidates. The ballot paper, however, will have a column "against". To become a mayor of the capital the candidate has to win at least 23 votes out of 45.
Albek Ibraimov was the head of the Free Economic Zone Bishkek, and Dastan factory, worked as deputy head of the Presidential Administration. In 2012 he was appointed Chairman of the Board, and in 2015 - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Manas International Airport JSC.
Kubanychbek Kulmatov voluntarily resigned on February 9. Vice Mayor for Social Issues Aigul Ryskulova is an acting mayor at the time. The mayor is chosen for the time of Bishkek City Council's work - until the fall of 2016. Election of deputies of the next convocation is to take place in the fall.
