State to back up 18 thousand families amid energy tariffs’ increase

The state will back up about 18 thousand Bishkek families amid the energy tariffs’ increase in 2010, Nariman Tyuleev, the mayor of Bishkek told the press conference in the news agency 24.kg Friday.

As of today the city administration subsidizes coal for 3,200 thousand and gas for 221 families at 12 million soms. “Already 350 million soms will be allocated in 2010 for 11 groups of citizens, who will become socially vulnerable after rising of tariffs. For example, the administration will back up retirees whose pension does not exceed 3,400 thousand soms and residents with per capita income up to 2,100 thousand soms,” the mayor said.

The official confirmed the information that previously he was against the new tariffs. “When the government adopted the decree, it did not take into account our estimates and the tariffs bore heavily on the city. As a result, it was decided to allot Bishkek about 500 million soms for payment of subsidies,” he added.
