Kyrgyzstan voices 4 initiatives at UN Climate Change Conference

28/12-2009 12:20, Bishkek – 24.kg news agency , By Irina PAVLOVA

Kyrgyzstan reportedly voiced four initiatives at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, director of the state agency of environment and forestry protection Arstanbek Davletkeldiev told reporters in Bishkek Monday.

The Kyrgyz delegation suggested creating a coalition of small mountainous states; organizing a special support foundation; including major hydropower stations into the pure developemtn mechanism and including small mountainous countries into the world forestry developemtn and biodiversity protection program.

“A United Nations conference on climate change in Copenhagen (Denmark) was called to put an end to two-year talks on a new global climate change agreement to enter into effect since 2013. However the delegates failed to come to a consensus and postponed the final decision till the next conference in 2010 in Mexico. After all, the conference resulted into a Copenhagen agreement, meant to keep rising of global temperatures under 2 percent,” Davletkeldiev said.
