In Kyrgyzstan, leather industry is failing against the background of textile and garment production growth. This was stated at today’s conference “Light industry development. Reducing informal employment in the industry”.

According to deputy head of the Department of Light and Other Industries for the Economic Regulation Ministry Fatima Sadamkulova, index of physical volume of skin, its products, and footwear production fell sharply in 2008. It continued to decline in the next four years.

At the same time, the total amount of leather industry goods increased over the years. Rising sharply in 2008 from 124.8 to 184.8 million soms, it continues to stay at the same level. Following the results of 2011, we made leather products worth 191.1 million soms.

“Kyrgyz businessmen have no money for upgrading equipment and purchasing of rawstock, Fatima Sadamkulova said. - Poor quality of rawstock and deficit of cattle skin that are suitable for processing influence greatly”.
