In Kyrgyzstan, flour milling industry is in critical condition – Temir Sariyev

29/03-2012 12:25, Bishkek – 24.kg news agency , by Tolgonai OSMONGAZIEVA

“In Kyrgyzstan, flour milling industry is in critical condition,” Minister of Economy and Antitrust Policy Temir Sariyev said at today’s press conference.

According to him, the reason is abolition of import duties on flour. “This measure was taken to stabilize prices for flour. It was permitted to deliver up to 2 tons of flour. Because of this, people began to import flour not for personal consumption, but for sale. At the moment only 5 of 120 milling enterprises are in operation,” Temir Sariyev said.

The official noted that in this connection the Ministry of Economy proposes to introduce temporary import duties on flour.
