EEC countries gave $16M for reconstruction of tailing pounds in Min Kush and Kazhi Sai in Kyrgyzstan

EEC (Eurasian Economic Community) countries gave $16M for reconstruction of tailing pounds in Min Kush and Kazhi Sai in Kyrgyzstan, reported the Kyrgyzstan permanent representative in EEC Usen Usupov.

According him, the decision was accepted after EEC Interstate Council approved on Premiers’ level the joint program Recultivation of EEC Countries Territories Suffered from Mining on April 5, 2012. It was developed by Rosatom Russian state-owned corporation with assistance of public bodies of EEC countries.

Reported, the program budget is $1.15B which will be realized during 2013-2018. The budget formed on shared funding: 75% - Russia, 15% - Kazakhstan, 5% - Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan each.

Min Kush tailing pound’s reconstruction cost $13.6M. Experts note that the pound condition is catastrophic as there is a possibility of flood and landslide.

Kazhi Sai tailing pound cost $2.4M

Here experts stress that the pound objects are sources of possible transitional ecologic disaster for all Central Asia. The program realization will promote solution of social, economic and ecological issues in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
