"Non-compliance with decision of the UN Committee on Human Rights - this is a threat not to Kyrgyzstan but to its citizens," the human rights defender Dinara Oshurakhunova said today after the verdict against Azimzhan Askarov was announced.
According to her, Kyrgyz court initially ignored the opinion of the Committee - as far back as in summer when the case of Askarov was considered by the Supreme Court.
The decision of the UN Committee on Human Rights was quite clear - Askarov shall be released immediately. The authorities had to provide him with access to justice.
Representatives of the international organization Amnesty International claimed that initially the relatives of victims put pressure on the courts.
Amnesty International noted that the testimony of Azimzhan Askarov should not be taken as true, as it was taken under torture.
According to its representatives, in view of the said above, it is not possible to consider all previous verdicts, including the latest - by Chui court bench, as reasonable.
