Drug addicts make up 1 percent of Kyrgyz population

Drug addicts make up over one percent of Kyrgyz population, Bolotbek Nogoibaev, Director of the Kyrgyz Drug Enforcement Agency said Wednesday at the meeting of the Security Council for Drug Addiction and Illegal Drug Trafficking Control.

Number of drug addicts constantly grows in all regions of the republic, excluding Batken and Naryn regions. “According to the official data, at least 9,100 people are registered in Kyrgyz drug abuse clinics but in reality the number is much higher,” the director said.

Increase in drug prices is reportedly traced at the time. “It is a result of effective work of the agency and the interior ministry’s departments,” he added.
