23/10-2009 14:53, Bishkek – News Agency “24.kg”, By Ksenia TOLKANEVA
They say money can only have two states - no money or lack of money. It is an open secret that the majority of people in Kyrgyzstan does not get decent salaries and live at the poverty line. However, needs grow along with the size of salary. The news agency 24.kg decided to ask Kyrgyzstanis is they were OK with their salary.
Alexander Voinov, ex-director of the State Physical Culture, Sports, Youth Affairs and Child Protection Agency:
I am OK with my salary, but I am not a 20-year-old boy to exist only on wage. I have got an orphanage where I take care of children that requires significant income.
Alexander Shepelenko, a journalist:
Surely, I am not OK. I have to run about to earn eight thousands soms. I help my brothers who suffer from the global recession in Russia. I think, 15 thousands would be enough for me.
Ruslan Tyumenbaev, a bronze winner of the Beijing Olympic Games, Greco-Roman wrestling:
You know, my sport grant and a small business income are quite enough for living. I know that sport can not implement all my needs that is why I am studying economy and think of my future even now.
Ulan Sarbanov, executive director of AUB-Charity Foundation:
To my mind, the question is a little bit improper in the modern market environment. I am OK with my salary, I keep a large family and help my parents.
Temir Sariev, leader of Ak Shumkar party:
Well, I fall into category of people who can earn money. I always have been able to work. As a student I had to work as a street sweeper and a watchman at the kindergarten. And now I can earn enough to keep my family and subscribe money to charities. If to speak about minimal salary, I think it is somehow equal to living wage of population, but everyone has various requirements.
Galina Filonenko, a physician:
If I were OK with my salary, I would not go out to make injections and massages at nights. I live with my daughter who is a student. From early spring till the late fall we live in a country house and give our one-room apartment for rent to earn some money for living.
Alexander Kulinskiy, chairman of the Mass Media Claims Commission:
I am quite OK with my wage. Its size directly depends on my work during a month. So I have to whirl. However, housing tariffs grow from day to day while salary reduces, but everybody would like to live decently.
