Chui oblast takes lead in HIV rate

Chui oblast of Kyrgyzstan is taking lead in HIV rate, the official statistics of the Republican AIDS Union and the Kyrgyz Health Care Ministry said.

Chui oblast reportedly counts 640 HIV-positives, whereof 111 – women. It is followed by the Osh city with 599 infects (109 women). The number of HIV infects in Osh oblast has hit 488, with the biggest infection rate among women – 166. The statistics counts 352 HIV positive patients in Bishkek, 272 - in Jalalabad and 42 - in Batken oblasts. The lowest rate is traced in Issyk-Kul oblast (30 infects), Talas (12 infects) and Naryn (5 infects).

In total Kyrgyzstan counts 2,592 HIV positive individuals, whereof 2,441 are Kyrgyz citizens. In 2009, 294 Kyrgyzstanis died of HIV, whereof 114 were AIDS carriers.
