Number of social orphans exceeds 23 thousands in Kyrgyzstan

Number of social orphans has exceeded 23 thousands in Kyrgyzstan, Aleksei Petrushevsky, Director of the Street Children Rehabilitation Center said at the briefing Tuesday.

Number of children, abandoned by Russian and Kyrgyz parents is almost equal. “But you can not meet Korean, Dungan and Gipsy children among them,” Petrushevsky said.

“I am sure that heating and electricity tariffs’ raise will result in increased number of children at the streets. Besides, inmates of orphanages are completely not adjusted to life, especially girls,” he said.

“The state spends money on children but as a rule former inmates of children’s homes have no access to housing and jobs. They have to engage in illegal activities and we should pay special attention to the fact,” the director said.
