At least 1,944 special kids under 18 reside in Issyk-Kul region

At least 1,944 thousand kids with special needs under 18 reside in Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan, Rakhat Sulaimanov, spokesperson for the Issyk-Kul regional administration told the news agency 24.kg.

Groups of family doctors and regional hospitals reportedly carry out free medical examination of the physically challenged as a part of a month campaign timed to the International Day of Disabled Persons, marked on December 3.

Assistance is also rendered to children from needy families, who require a surgery. “As of today, about 17 children, awaiting urgent surgery, are registered at the regional administration. Local officials were charged with raising funds for operation of 10 of them up to 2010. Two of the children need cardiac surgery and the governor promised to allocate $6 thousands from his fund,” Sulaimanov said.
