About 70 percent of new HIV infections result from sharing of drug injecting equipment, Talgat Subanbaev, Manager of the AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Global Fund told reporters in Bishkek, Thursday.

As of November 1, 2009, there are 2,625 registered HIV infected patients in Kyrgyzstan, whereof 2,473 are official citizens of Kyrgyzstan.

The outbreak of the infection hit 2006-2007 period when a mass infection occurred in the hospital of Nookat. The trail over those guilty of mass HIV infecting of children is still ongoing. Meanwhile one of the doctors on trial has died, another one is in grave condition.
