How to make New Year fairy tale come true

Everybody expects something good in New Year trying to leave all the negative in the passing one. Children are waiting for the holiday with special excitement. Those, who still believe in Father Frost, write him letters and hide them under pillow in hope the main New Year’s character will make the dreams come true. Someone dreams of Barbie doll with her friend Ken, somebody -of a gun or large toy cars, another child dreams of a bag of candies or box of oranges. But what do children with special needs dream of?

Polina Tsvetkova, 11:

Nobody can make my dream come true. I wish all children were healthy. I would like to become a doctor in future. I will treat children in order they never fall ill.

Her mother:

Polina, like other children, is looking forward to New Year. And we, parents, dream only of one: to see out children alive, healthy. Eleven years of visits to doctors and hospitals has brought us no results. Polina’s leg is to be amputated. May be she could avoid such fate if we were timely received by a competent and honest doctor. Even if a doctor can do nothing for her, he would never say: I am so sorry but I can not help you. There is a good specialist, visit him.” One physician nearly forced us to bring him necessary thing and when we finally got it, said: “Sorry, I can not help your daughter.”

Altynbek Syimyk uulu, 13:

My main dream is to walk like other people do. My parents do everything possible for that. In New Year I would like to get cell phone and DVD. I believe in Father Frost and hope he will bring it to me.

His mother:

Our dearest wish is to recover Altynbek’s legs. We need not big money or mansions, the main is to see our child healthy. Altynbek is gifted, clever and sociable boy. He has a close friend Nuradil who is always by him. Our son is on friendly terms with our neighbor’s children, who take him sledging in winter and playing football in summer. He also plays chess and has won his fourth medal recently. Father have bought him computer and Altynbek spends his spare time drawing.

Kurman, 10:

I would like to get video camera in New Year. I will shoot cartoons. I do not believe in Father Frost, he is just an ordinary man in mask.

Suiunduk Asylbek uulu, 16:

What do I dream of? Is it everything you want to ask me? What will I get if I tell you about my dream? Or can you make it come true? Good bye!

Cholpon, mother of Suiunduk:

Some TV employees have visited us some days ago and promised to help. They filmed Suiunduk on camera and drove him to different places. Then they disappeared and have never called to ask how he is doing. And the boy fall ill after that. Such children are very vulnerable. He believed the persons could help him and is disappointed in people after that.

Suiunduk dreams of meeting with Nariman Tyuleev Mayor of Bishkek and asking him to help with housing. We had to sale our house some years ago.

Tamara Balkibekova, Coordinator of Rehabilitation Center under Association of Parents of Disabled Children (APDC):

Jointly with the National Red Crescent Society and the American University of Central Asia we plan to organize New Year concert for children under our care. At least 116 parents of children with special needs are registered at APDS. We register every volunteer.

Every year we deliver presents to those children who can not come to our events. Physically challenged children are waiting for New Year with special excitement and are looking forward to see New Year tree and get presents.
