Kyrgyzpatent represents Kyrgyzstan in GAC ICANN

The State Intellectual Property Service (Kyrgyzpatent) became an official representative of Kyrgyzstan in the Governmental Advisory Committee of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (GAC ICANN), press service of the organization reported.

Kyrgyzpatent initiated talks on joining GAC ICANN in December 2009.

“The Government Advisory Committee’s key role is to provide advice to ICANN on disputable issues of public policy. In particular, the GAC considers ICANN's activities and policies as they relate to the concerns of governments, particularly in matters where there may be an interaction between ICANN's policies and national laws or international agreements,” the press service said.

The GAC currently has 109 members. Over 30 governments and multiethnic governmental organizations, such as International Telecommunication Union (ITU) or the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) regularly take part in its activity.
