Civil Society of Kyrgyzstan considers the call of human rights advocates for questioning is increase of pressure on them

29/06-2010 07:32, Bishkek – 24.kg news agency

Civil society of Kyrgyzstan considers that the call of Tolekan Ismailova and Aziza Abdirasulova to Prosecutor’s Office for examination is the increase of pressure of authorities on human rights advocates.

“On 28 June 2010 well-known human rights advocates of Kyrgyzstan Tolekan Ismailova and Aziza Abdirasulova were called for examination to Osh oblast Prosecutor’s Office for giving evidence about circumstances, known to them, connected with the mass riots and murders in the south of the country within the criminal case initiated on 12 June 2010 by article 233 (Mass riots) and article 97 (Murder) of the Criminal Code. The examination lasted for several hours”, the human rights center “Citizens against Corruption” notes.

Civil sector of the country regards the actions of the supervisory authorities as incorrect.

“The actions of the investigative authorities, even if they have powers to call human rights advocates and question them, cannot be called as correct, since human rights advocates are the people of good will like doctors, firemen, rescuers, to whom citizens show trust, who are devoted to protection of human rights and freedoms, interests of citizens, regardless of nationality. Basing on these high ethic reasons, they cannot use the evidence of human rights advocates as witnesses of any facts, since it shatters confidence of people in them, who trusted their secrets, thoughts, views”, the center notes.

Note of 24.kg news agency: Well-known human rights advocates Tolekan Ismailova and Aziza Abdirasulova conducted and are conducting invaluable work on conciliation of conflicting parties, are controlling transparency of providing the victims with humanitarian aid.

“Civil society of Kyrgyzstan considers that the call of Tolekan Ismailova and Aziza Abdirasulova to Prosecutor’s Office for examination is the increase of pressure of authorities on human rights advocates, which began right after conducting the referendum, and requires not to create such precedent, violating civil rights and preventing the human rights advocates from fulfilling of their lawful activities on protection of human rights”, stated the employees of the center “Citizens against Corruption”.
