Health status of the convict human right defender Azimzhan Askarov is extremely grave

Health status of the convict Azimzhan Askarov, the prominent human right defender in Kyrgyzstan, is extremely grave as his lawyer Nurbek Toktakunov said during appeal hearing.

He has filed a petition to the presiding judge asking to invite a surgeon for medical examination of the convict. According to the lawyer, Azimzhan Askarov hasn’t eaten during 15 days due to gastrointestinal disease. Emergency doctors couldn’t help him advising to send for a surgeon.

Valentina Gritsenko, the head of Spravedlivost human right organization, said Azimzhan Askarov is in a critical condition. “He has become emaciated; skin of the face became almost green. He may die if he won’t be transferred to the hospital,” Valentina Gritsenko said.
