What foreigners should teach Kyrgyz?
26/01-2012 10:03, Bishkek – 24.kg news agency , by Anastasia BENGARD
Surely, each of you heard Vladimir Mayakovski’s poem “What is your future job?” and its famous burthen: “Let somebody teach me”. It is possible that this burthen is a some kind of mainspring of Osh province Governor Sooronbay Zheenbekov when he urged foreign donors to teach chicken farming to local farmers. USAID Assistant Project Director on local development even expressed readiness to cooperate in this sphere.
What else foreigners should teach Kyrgyz? 24.kg news agency reporter asked this question to his respondents
Boris Kubaev, economics doctor, honored worker of education, SITEI (Institute of Strategic Information Technologies in Education) rector.
-First of all people must be taught labor since childhood. Our people has more than enough skills and knowledge about nature and wild life. At least half of our officials (from local bureaucrat to high-ranking official) must be taught the main thing – love to motherland. Let’s stop travel around the world and hustle and speak that our people can’t do anything. How did we survive if we know nothing? We must work hard, not mouch.
Olga Yun, chief executive of People with HIV Association:
-To my mind the current burning issue is how to earn money in small communities and resolved conflicts by peaceful means.
Mikhail Khalitov chief on Tourism Council at Business Community of Kyrgyzstan:
-A bad case (laugh)! I would ask foreign donors to stop giving loans and grants for useless and crude projects. That put our country into serfdom. Any beggary cause a welfare mentality: we stop working, think by our own. We just hope that some kind person will come and do everything for us.
Nurgul Cmagulova, teacher:
-Let foreigner teach our people work. Apparently, if public officials propose something like this it means they don’t know what to do. They mastered the word perfectly but can’t do anything without external assistance. Then they start to complain that international organizations are interfering to internal affairs of the country. First, they send a cat for lard then they complain that lard was eaten. If they can figure out something on their own they should pay for the other. All the world knows that USAID intentionally realizes projects, lays out money for consulting of their own specialists and then enfetter the country and bankrupt it. But our authorities haven’t understood it yet.
Akhmadkhon Jusupov, Deputy assistant:
As public official I don’t have the right to express my opinion without chief’s permission.
Esen Sapnogoev, Assistant of Director General of Talas Combined Hospital:
-…(laugh). If these chickens bring 2 or 3 eggs a day then let foreigners teach farmers of Talas province! Seriously, Kyrgyz is an ancient people and we can teach foreigners anything. The main condition is stability.
Gulnara Ibraeva, Director of Innovative Solutions public association :
-Well, our people can ask teach them how to juice cow properly! Strategic development plans are working out all over republic. In practice real deeds often are absolutely controversial to documents. We have technologies of chicken farming for a long time and the Osh province governor’s initiative shows incongruity and incompetence of our high-ranking officials. The main question is: if we want to be taught? 10 years ago German society for technical co-operation (GTZ) taught habitants of the South Kyrgyzstan how to produce silk. Then we could stake out a claim of successful producer but we missed such opportunity. Therefore, the main thing is to follow strategic documents.
Zhoomart Saparbaev, Deputy of Parliament:
-There are many spheres in which Kyrgyz should be taught from developed countries habitants. For example, in breeding and farming. Farmers in developed countries are spending in 5 times less water and have more bumper crop. We shouldn’t ruffle and adopt their experience.
Altynay Omurbekova, Bishkek Lenin district local government:
-Maybe they could teach our citizens follow traffic rules?! Though all Kyrgyz need is learn everything by their own. The main thing is to possess culture. Most of problems in our life is the result of its absence.
