18 per cent of Kyrgyzstan population doesn’t have full access to food – Michael Huggins

“18 per cent of Kyrgyzstan population doesn’t have full access to food,” informed acting country director of Kyrgyz WFP (World Food Programme) office Michael Huggins.

According him, despite a long winter, food situation in Kyrgyzstan didn’t worsen. “In 2011 about 46 per cent of population couldn’t fully cover all need in food totally. This year the number decreased down to 18 per cent. It is a very good result which was achieved due to Government’s actions. It worth to be noted that food prices (bread, eggs, milk and meat) have risen,” he explained.

He noted that WFP is going to assist 370 people who are in desperate need in food.
