The head of Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Justice proposes to encourage journalists exposing corruptionists. Minister of Justice Almambet Shykmamatov stated at today’s panel discussion called “The fourth power. Rules of the game”.
According to him, Parliament discussed a bill “On the people revealed the facts of corruption and tax shelter”, which proposes to encourage journalists who conduct an inquiry and identify corrupt officials, and to give 20 percent of the funds returned to the state. “We wanted to adopt a bill so that all citizens could conduct such investigations, but then we decided that there would be a mess. Besides, Prosecutor General’s Office will be showered with applications,” Almambet Shykmamatov said.
He noted that the employees of agencies and ministries will anonymously give information about corrupt officials by themselves. “We will involve civil servants. The state will ensure security of journalists,” Minister added.
“The facts of corruption will draw a wide response with the help of journalists. Parliament, President and people will control over them, and judges will not be able to soft-pedal the issue,” Minister Shykmamatov concluded.
