Almazbek Atambayev: Manas international airport should not have military component

“Manas international airport should not have military component,” Almazbek Atambayev, the President of Kyrgyzstan said at the end-of-year press conference.

“It is my principle position. And it was not made under someone’s pressure,” head of the state outlined.

According to him, production of drugs has increased for 11 years of war in Afghanistan. “Not in the entire country but in a province. If there was a will, we could not only destroy plantations but also wipe out the province in the whole,” Almazbek Atambayev pointed.

The President believes that it is necessary to get ready for 2014. “We will equip the army, strengthen Border Service. The border should be a boundary. We will find money for it. I hope for the support of CSTO partners,” Almazbek Atambayev said.

"Manas should not have military component. Forces of another state create problems for us. There have been attempts to sabotage. And, as a general said, if someone attacks them, they will respond with a blow at all U.S. bases,” he stressed.
