On the eve of the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage 24.kg news agency provides readers with a unique opportunity to see the very first film shot in Kyrgyzstan - Covered Wagon.
It is clear that it is black and white, silent, but almost 90 years ago, back in 1927, it was an extraordinary technical breakthrough.
The history of the characters unfolds against the backdrop of cruel events of the Civil War, when there was a confrontation between the Bolsheviks and the foreign troops of the Entente, fighting on the side of the White Guardsmen in the country.
The unique historical heritage was exclusively presented to 24.kg news agency by Central State Archive of Film, Photo and Audio Records at the State Registration Service of Kyrgyzstan.
The film was made by director from Tashkent O. Frelikh on the scenario by Lola Saifulina.
Kyrgyzstan may lose such unique tapes that keep a breath of the era, if the country does not find the means to digitize them.
Director of the Archive Begaiym Amankanova told to 24.kg news agency that digitization of audio materials (radio, voice recordings) has been almost completed, but there is another global problem - to digitalize feature and documentary films.
"Digitization of films requires equipment worth € 1.5 million. In most cases, these are the only originals not only in Kyrgyzstan but also in the world. Management is aware of the problem and trying to find the means," she told.
The archive staff told that the process of digitization of archival film documents is carried out also by our neighbors in Central Asia.
