Kyrgyz moviemakers to head for Locarno International Film Festival

Kyrgyz moviemakers and directors from Central Asia have an opportunity to take part in Open Doors program of the International Film Festival in Locarno (Switzerland) on August 4-14, 2010, Gulbara Tolomushova Assistant Chairwoman of the Filmmakers’ Union, film expert told the news agency 24.kg.

One of the festival’s programs –Open Doors is reportedly devoted to Central Asia.

As to Martina Malacrida, director of the program, Central Asian cinema is still little known in Switzerland. “Directorship of the film festival decided to draw attention to the region and inspire new generation of filmmakers,” she said.

Film experts will consider about hundred applications from the whole region. Finalists will be invited to the contest in Locarno. Winner of the festival will reportedly get $50 thousand. The expert commission includes Joel Chapron, well-known film critic, one of the best USSR and Eastern Europe cinema specialists.
