ADB will allocate to Kyrgyzstan $ 95.1 million for the rehabilitation of an alternative corridor of North - South route. The agreement was signed the day before at the Ministry of Finance.
The rehabilitation of the section - about 70 kilometers, connecting the main economic centers of the region with CAREC corridors (Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation - Note of 24.kg news agency) -will be carried out within the project.
"It will link the economically vulnerable areas with economic centers, increase efficiency and ensure a more secure movement of goods and people," the ministry says.
The first CAREC corridor connects Russia and Europe with China, and North-South road will connect the central part of Kyrgyzstan with the rest of the republic and other countries.
Third CAREC corridor connects Russia and Europe with the Middle East and South Asia. This is the only direct route between the southern and northern parts of the country, connecting Bishkek and Osh ─ two major economic and agricultural centers.
The combination of these two corridors will link Batken, Jalal-Abad and Osh regions with Chui, Issyk-Kul, Naryn and Talas regions.
