The European Union will allocate 13 million euro to improve the election process in Kyrgyzstan, statement of the European Union says.
According to EU officials, the parliamentary elections on October 4 stand out in regional context, and became an important milestone in the democratic transformation of the country. "Thanks to the efforts of national authorities on improvement of the election process, these elections were held in competitive, organized and peaceful atmosphere. The active participation of the people of Kyrgyzstan confirmed the support of parliamentary democracy," EU observers say.
The statement says that preliminary findings and conclusions of the international review mission for the elections of OSCE / ODIHR, which praised free choice among a wide range of candidates representing 14 political parties, have been taken into account. However, the OSCE / ODIHR noted the need to improve the transparency of procedures and, in particular, inclusiveness of the list of voters, secrecy of voting and vote counting.
The EU stresses that before the municipal and presidential elections in 2016-2017, the national authorities should consider the recommendations of OSCE / ODIHR. The European Union is working on a program in the amount of 13.13 million euro to improve the election process in Kyrgyzstan.
