Bishkek court resumes former Foreign Minister’s trial

29/10-2009 09:31, Bishkek – News Agency “24.kg”, By Daniyar KARIMOV

Trail over the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, a known oppositionist, Alikbek Jekshenkulov, will resume in Kyrgyzstan in early November, Nina Zotova, attorney of the minister told 24.kg Thursday.

The ex-minister was arrested on March 9, 2009 on suspicion of murder of a Turkish businessman, Servet Chetin, committed two years ago in Talas region. According to investigation, the foreigner was shot dead with the honorary gun of Jekshenkulov. Therewith, Jekshenkulov is charged with “misuse of 73,995,100 million soms issues for reconstruction of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry’s office.

The last hearing in August 2009 reportedly ended up with the court’s decision to allow Jekshenkulov to stay under house arrest because of his worsened health.

The former official does not admit his guilt, while his supporters believe Jekshenkulov is politically persecuted.
