There was another incident involving weapons on Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
The State Border Guard Service of the Kyrgyz Republic clarifies that yesterday, on August 25, in Sai area of Lyailyak district of Batken province there was a border skirmish between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan border guards.
According to authorities, Tajik border guards tried to establish a border post on inconsistent state border area.
"Besides, citizens of Tajikistan - the inhabitants of Ovcha-Kalacha village - tried to destroy the bridge over Gulkandoz River, where citizens of Kyrgyzstan pass the area of Sai, with the use of use of excavator," the Kyrgyz State Border Service informs.
On demand of the Kyrgyz border guards to stop destruction of the bridge, as well as to remove uncoordinated section of the border post, citizens of Tajikistan started throwing stones at Kyrgyz border guards.
The State Border Service of the KR claims that Tajik servicemen were the first to open fire. According to the data, during a firefight Tajik side used mortars.
The Kyrgyz side doesn't have victims in the shootout.
At present the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border is still tense. The Kyrgyz State Border Service units, dislocated at the given site of the state border, switched to heavy security regime.
