"Kyrgyzstan provides itself fully for only three of nine species of food safety products," the MP Bakhadyr Suleimanov said at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs within the discussion of the report of the Prime Minister on the government work for 2013.
According to him, we were talking about potatoes, milk and vegetables. "We do not provide ourselves for all other products in the right amount and have to import them. The same sugar, for example. The republic needs about 100,000 tons. Our provision does not exceed 23,000. The Government assures that it increases the acreage of sugar beet, but it isn't enough to ensure food security," Bakhadyr Suleimanov stated.
According to the Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Valery Dil, the republic's provision of sugar amounts to 12 percent. "We are thinking over the issue of opening another plant in order to increase our own production," he added.
