Kyrgyzstan abolishes National Guard

The institution of the National Guard was abolished in Kyrgyzstan after the President signed Tuesday a decree on abolishment of the elite unit, established by Askar Akaev to provide security to a state leader.

As to the document, the National Guard was abrogated “to optimize activity of bodies, providing guard and security to state objects and involved in guard mounting during meetings of heads of other states and standing guard at the state flag of the Kyrgyz Republic at the Bishkek central Ala-Too Square, by their reforming and removing duplicate functions.”

The decree entered into force since the day of its signing.

Announcing the wide-scale reform of the state administration bodies, Kurmanbek Bakiev voiced one of the main tasks - reduction of excessive staff of the departments and structures which simply duplicate their functions.
