Adequate response to external shocks, energy crisis control and economy competitiveness are main priorities of Kyrgyzstan, President says

The President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev named three main state priorities of Kyrgyzstan in his today’s address to the nation.

“First of all we should provide adequately respond to external shocks and disturbances, second we should make it final with energy and consumer crises, and third improve competitiveness of   Kyrgyz economy,” Bakiev said.

The president noted that world crisis leads to investments’ inflow slowdown and the first signs are already visible. “Therefore we should take measures to stir up internal resources,” the president noted.

Bakiev has also mentioned that Kyrgyzstan is dependant on the world food and energy products’ prices and it will most affect vulnerable layers of the society. “Social support measures will demand additional reserve in the state budget, which implies stability of state finance system,” Bakiev said.

Mentioning energy issue the president said that the biggest challenge in this field will be “water factor”. Government should elaborate a long-term state strategy on water resources, which should protect national interests of the country and on the other hand provide regional stability.
