SCO to increase anti-terrorism cooperation

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization will increase its anti-terrorism cooperation, first of all in Afghanistan, Muratbek Imanaliev, SCO Secretary-General said on February 3 in Beijing, Afghanistan.ru news agency reported.

The organization reportedly plans to intensify its activity in the international security sphere in 2010, foremost in Afghanistan.

“SCO has always been doing a lot to contribute to the Afghan problem’s regulation,” the agency quoted as Imanaliev said.

The Secretary-General reminded that all SCO states were active members of antiterrorist coalition.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was founded in 2001 after the U.S. have launched its operation in Afghanistan. The organization includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan while India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan have the observer status.
