Kyrgyz parliamentary elections can be considered as invalid – Umetalieva

The Kyrgyz parliamentary elections can be considered as invalid due to a number of harsh violations of the Code on Elections, party leader Toktayim Umetalieva stated Sunday to 24.kg news agency.

“On October 10, 2010, during the Kyrgyz parliamentary elections the observers of political parties, public organizations observed many violations. Only our political organization has recorded not less than 20 serious violations of the Code on Elections of Kyrgyzstan. By 3 p.m., the CEC gives country-wide permission for moving the voting papers from urns to bags and boxes, which is not specified by the Code that clearly says: opening of urns is prohibited until official vote count,” she emphasizes.

According to Toktayim Umetalieva, “one more crying violation is the all-round presence of members of Patriot voluntary people’s guards, who protect the polling stations of the country, but some of them are members of one of the political parties, participating in the elections.”

“According to the Code on Elections, they are not entitled to be inside the polling stations and contact commission members during the voting. We remind that the legal order workers must be out of premises for voting. The Patriot members constantly conducted conversations both with the commission members and the voters, agitating for voting for one of the power parties. Despite the numerous notices, they are continuing to be inside the premises,” Toktayim Umetalieva underlines.

According to her, “at such inadmissible violations, Jashasyn Kyrgyzstan party considers the parliamentary elections as invalid and the future election results as knowingly unfair.”
