“Attempt in Kyrgyzstan to provide people with drinking water has resulted in leaving villages without it,” MP Erkingul Imankozhoeva said at the session of the parliamentary Committee on Agricultural Policy, Water Sources and Local Government.
She says that donors allotted more than $60 millions to provide regions with drinking water. “But practice showed many mistakes were done and citizens haven’t gotten long-awaited water. When the project was implemented they told inhabitants of villages where water was that water supply will become better. People trusted them and joined the project and in the result they run out of water. What a mockery! Why not to control the purse strings and implement the project properly?”
Representatives of ARIS admitted mistakes were committed during the project implementation.
Representatives of the State Agency for Construction and Regional Development noted that there are 1792 villages in the republic. “Among them 524 with more than 1 million people were provided with drinking water within Taza Suu (clean water) project. However, owing to absence of services and plumbers water supply was interrupted in 35 villages. 142 villages faced problems due to absence of pumps and water pumps. 1608 villages need water still. Approximately KGS 20 billions are needed to provide fully villages with water,” they added.
