Kyrgyzstan intends to sue Centerra Gold in international court

The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Omurbek Babanov proposes to create an expert commission to prepare a complaint against the Canadian company “Centerra Gold” to international court. He said this at yesterday’s Parliament session.

According to him, first of all field development should benefit the people of Kyrgyzstan.

“We will create a commission to know what action may be filed in order to find out whether there is a real danger for ecology. We will attract international experts from Europe and America. They have better knowledge than ours. Basing on these results we will determine how much money is needed for reclamation. We need to make a claim so that Canadian side to pay money or assets,” he said.

The official also noted that President Almazbek Atambayev supported him.

The discussion of the deputy commission’s report will be continued at the Parliament extraordinary session on June 22.
