One of the biblical Ten Commandments says: Help you neighbor. We have to admit that the number of people following the commandment decreases from year to year. At the same time number of homeless, disadvantaged children constantly grows. The news agency “24.kg” decided to ask citizens of Kyrgyzstan: When was the last time you helped orphan and disadvantaged children?
Uktomhan Abdullaeva, Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan:
About a month ago I helped inmates of the orphanage Meerim Bulagy. I brought them clothes, school uniform.
Besides, I am guardian of a physically challenged girl. She was adopted by a family. But after her adoption the foster mother gave birth to two girls. Head of the family demanded to return the adopted child to orphanage but the mother refused. The spouses get divorced. The woman raises three daughters alone. One cannot but support such family. When I come to them with presents they welcome me as relative.
Timothy Schaffter, UNICEF Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan:
One day I met homeless child on my way home. I carried some food for my family. I gave him everything. But it is a particular case. My family regularly aims its efforts at support of disadvantaged children. In the line of UNICEF I try to help different groups of children and my wife carries out trainings directed at development of children’s potential.
Gulnara Derbisheva, deputy of the Kyrgyz parliament:
A month ago I helped boy from rehabilitation centre. He was seriously bitten by a dog and urgently needed surgery. I granted some money, but any assistance is important in such a case.
Vyacheslav Andreev, vice president of Basketball Federation:
Why should I help orphan children? Say better who will help me. Ask me what wage I get. My salary is 3623 soms. And I should help? Let the government to help them. Half of my team is orphans but nobody helps us.
Ilyas Davydov, Industry, Energy and Fuel Resources Minister:
A sportsman turned to me for help not long ago. He sustained injury and became disabled. The man needs operation. He is in Moscow at the time. I want to find sponsor who will help to pay for surgery. Chief of Soyuzhydrospetsstroy paid official visit to us. I hope that together we will manage to help the man.
Tursunbek Akun, Ombudsman:
A man came in our office two weeks ago and asked us to help his physically challenged child as he is unable to provide for his family. I personally gave him 700 soms.
Nurlan Askarov, Chief of the State Agency for Vocational Education under the Kyrgyz government:
I always give alms to children begging at the streets.
