Today at a meeting of the Committee of the Parliament on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security, the deputies rejected a bill "On national identity passports", involving the introduction of biometric documents.
Chairman of the committee and a deputy from Bir Bol faction Askarbek Shadiev called the work of the State Registration Service on replacement of passports a business, and asked why the bill was initiated by MP Dastan Bekeshev, not the government.
MPs expressed the view that questions in this area should be handled by experts.
In her turn, MP from the Social Democratic Party Irina Karamushkina also raised the issue of security of personal data of citizens.
A deputy from Ata Meken faction Kanybek Imanaliev suggested not supporting the bill if an electronic document is not issued for free.
As a result of the discussion, the committee members unanimously rejected the bill, stating it needs improvement.
