Plague focus localization and liquidation drills took place in Bishkek on the basis of the city Family Practice Center No 12, city clinical hospitals 1 and 6 and the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital. The press service of the Bishkek municipality reported.
"According to the World Health Organization, more than 13,000 cases of human plague, including about 900 deaths, have been registered over the last ten years in 16 countries of Asia, Africa and America. Kyrgyzstan has three natural plague focuses (Tien- Shan, Alai and Talas), spatially isolated from each other and occupying more than 320,000 hectares, that is 16.3 percent of the total territory of the country," the mayor's office reported.
"A quarantine disease patient can be diagnosed as in a specialized medical institution, so in primary health care units (family practice centers and its branches). This situation obliges the health workers of any type to known clinical signs and epidemiological features of quarantine diseases, to continually improve the practical preventive measures and timely medical aid skills," the municipality added.
The drills indicated that the listed tasks require painstaking training of health care workers. Its main form should be practical - training and exercises to secure incremental measures from the time of treatment of the patient at the unit, the notification scheme, taking samples for analysis, patient localization, the isolation of contact persons and caregivers.
The drills were attended by leaders of the Health Care Department, municipal health care organizations and members of the commissions for the prevention and elimination of emergency situations.
