Deputies insist on the celebration of the Day of Bishkek City on April 29. Amendments to the decree will be discussed tomorrow, March 23, at the next session of the city council.
The background statement says that by the decision dated February 18, 2014 celebration day is last Saturday of September. In 2015 it was celebrated in the penultimate Saturday of October.
"According to the mayor's office, the documents, submitted by the Central State Archive, confirm the date of birth of the city on April 29. Given the archival documents, we have to retain the date of the city day," the city council emphasized.
The official date of the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic founding is April 29, 1878. On this day, the military governor gave the order to transfer the center of the city of Tokmak County to Pishpek which was renamed as Frunze on May 12, 1926, and then as Bishkek on February 1, 1991.
In recent years, the City Day was celebrated in autumn referring to the lack of money in spring.
