China to pour $2 M into construction of Kokomeren HEPs

Government of China will invest $2 million to economy of Kyrgyzstan for construction of Kokomeren chain of power plants, as First vice-Prime Minister of the KR Omurbek Babanov said at today’s meeting with representatives of Chinese Sinohydro Corporation.
According to him, development of hydro energy is one of the priorities of Kyrgyzstan. “We agreed with “Electric Power Stations” OJSC about construction of the chain of power plants with the help of Chinese company,” reported Omurbek Babanov.
According to Director General of the corporation, chain of HEPs will be built at the expenses of Chinese government. It is planned to complete feasibility study by the end of 2011, design and estimate works - in 2012.
According to Omurbek Babanov, currently, Kyrgyzstan produced 12 billion kilowatt-hours of energy. 1.3 thousand megawatts would total 25-percent increase of current capacity.
Sinohydro Corporation is one of five largest global corporations in the field of hydropower.
In the end of the meeting, parties penned protocol of intent on construction of chain of power plants.
