"Current situation requires strengthening of military power and crisis mechanisms of CSTO," President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said today at a meeting of CSTO Collective Security Council.
According to him, we agreed, if required, to adjust basic statutory documents and optimize the organization in the nearest future. Now the CSTO is becoming the most popular organization in the post-Soviet space. However, the main challenges and threats remain common for all the countries. Growing level of extremism and terrorism causes most concerns.
"Today we face with new hotbeds of instability, including those near the borders of CSTO countries. The result of this is destruction of states, impoverishment of the people, and a large stream of refugees. Therefore it is important to pay great attention to the development and successful operation of CSTO rapid reaction forces. We need to make some changes in the military component, including determining of the regional air defense system of peacekeeping forces. Today, in planning the work of the organization, we have to rely upon the existing resources, to set specific targets based on an assessment of internal and external threats," Alexander Lukashenko said.
