"Today, there was not a single rally in the country- that is an indicator of fair elections," the President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev said at a meeting with heads of delegations of international observers.
According to him, the authorities managed to hold free and fair elections. It is a historic moment for Kyrgyzstan. "Over the past 10 years, since 2005, there have been several parliamentary elections, and after them there always were rallies, excitement and two times - revolutions," the President reminded.
"For sustainable development it is important for us to learn how to conduct fair elections. This item has been included in the National Strategy for Sustainable Development along with economic development and the development of the army. I will not hide: a few days before the election, I could not sleep. That night I did not sleep from happiness, because my dream came true. Holding of free and fair elections was a personal matter for me. In 2009, during the presidential elections 19 of my supporters were arrested and convicted on various articles. One of them is now working as a deputy ombudsman. She was arrested because she has caught by the hand a man who threw ballots into the ballot box," Atambayev told.
"Today is one of the happiest days in my life, because there was not a single rally all over the country, not a single protesting person. This indicates the results of the elections, shows their quality. It's amazing for our country. Just recently, this development of events seemed impossible in the country," he added.
