Zhyrgalbek Samatov deprived a mandate. The decision to terminate the powers of members of the Central Election Commission was adopted on Friday.
At the meeting it was announced that Samatov received Russian passport in 2001 under the terms of the agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Russia on simplified issuance of citizenship.
"Samatov was registered as a deputy member in connection with the provision to the CEC of letter by Romadanovsky that he is not a citizen of the Russian Federation. Now Attorney General's Office informed us that it received materials, proving the presence of citizenship. Since in the presence of dual citizenship the law prohibits holding the public office, it is proposed to cancel the CEC's decision on registration," the CEC chairman Nurzhan Shayldabekova said.
The first time the CEC presented Samatov a badge and certificate of the deputy on December 9, 2015, and few days later deprived him of the status of the deputy. The reason was the news about the alleged presence of the Russian citizenship. Several times the deputy had to prove in court that it is not true.
As a result, on January 11 the CEC canceled the decision on early termination Zhyrgalbek Samatov of parliamentary powers and gave his mandate back.
